The official logo for Expo 2020 Dubai was unveiled by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The logo symbolizes the merging of the past and the future. It is inspired from antique factory gold ornaments that were discovered in 2002 at Saroug Al Hadeed, an archaeological site. It is one of the most important archaeological sites in the Arabian peninsula and is home to thousands of rare artifacts. By keeping this as a base, the logo sends out the message that the UAE’s civilization has deep roots and represents the country’s respect for its past.

In the words of Sheikh Mohammed, “We have chosen an authentic Emirati logo for Dubai Expo 2020. The design of the logo is inspired by a civilisation that existed 4000 years ago in an area extending from Baynounah in Abu Dhabi to Saroug Al Hadeed in Dubai and from Maliha Valley in Sharjah to the mountains of Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah. This land connected ancient civilizations and we will continue to be a hub that connects the world.”

The logo was unveiled in a grand ceremony that was witnessed by thousands: both residents and visitors alike. To make the unveiling even more special, the new Expo 2020 Dubai logo was projected onto the Burj Khalifa.

The event happened at the Armani hotel in Dubai and also had Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai as guests of honour.

The Expo 2020 Dubai logo was chosen from hundreds of applications to the logo design contest that was thrown open to the public. The three finalists of the competition were honoured by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai.

“The Expo 2020 logo represents our message to the world that our civilization has deep roots. We were and will always be a pot that gathers civilizations and a centre for innovation. Over 4,000 years ago, the people who lived in this land had a deep creative spirit and today the people of this country are building the nation’s future for centuries to come.” – Sheikh Mohammed
