When Apple came up with Live Photos, we were all super excited; especially the Harry Potter geeks among us (myself included). The idea of creating a gif image with our iPhones opened up many avenues of creativity. We all planned on utilizing the Live Photo feature to its fullest.

Except, that did not go quite as planned. Although people wanted to experiment with Live Photos, they ended up taking photos that were not ‘share-worthy.’

Well, Google is here to ‘save’ the idea of Live Photos with its new iPhone app!

The app is called Motion Stills and it helps correct your Live Photos to look and feel better. The app simply freezes the image’s background and focuses on capturing the motion at the center of the screen. As a result of this, the Live Photos appear to be much smoother and clearer.

Apart from fixing your Live Photos, the app can also help you convert a few Live Photos into a single image and save it as a single GIF image or a video clip.

“We pioneered this technology by stabilizing hundreds of millions of videos and creating GIF animations from photo bursts. “Our approach identifies optimal start and end points, and also discards blurry frames. As an added benefit, this fixes “pocket shots” (footage of the phone being put back into the pocket).” – Google’s Research Blog.

The app also adds a small watermark in your converted Live Photos but that is hardly a concern for the work that it does for you.

So go ahead and try this app out! And let us know how well it works with your Live Photos.
