Every year OnePlus releases 2 smartphones, a normal variant in spring and an incrementally updated “T” variant in fall. With this year’s OnePlus 6 already being considered as one of the best smartphones you can buy in the market, so how does the OnePlus 6T improve upon its predecessor?
More “2018” than ever!
Just like much of the leaked rumours, the 6T comes with a teardrop style notch that clocks the device at a greater screen to body ratio than even before – this is also thanks to the fact that the bottom bezel is also ever so slightly thinner.
Dimensions wise, the 6T supports a 6.4-inch FHD OLED panel that is 0.12 inches larger than the earlier OnePlus 6.

Aesthetically more pleasing without a rear fingerprint scanner, the OnePlus 6T bring in another late 2018 feature. An in screen fingerprint scanner- a feature that has been quickly popping up among Chinese OEM’s. Granted, the in screen fingerprint scanner won’t be as fast as its physical counterparts. The fingerprint scanner should be just as secure and reliable.
An Incremental Update
The 6 and 6T shares a lot of similarities, which to be fair is a good thing considering the 6T is OnePlus’s second flagship of this year. Doing so means consumers who brought the OnePlus 6 just a few months earlier won’t have to go through buyers remorse.

The 6T shares identical internal specifications with the OnePlus 6. Both these devices share the exact same Snapdragon 845 SoC, 6/8 GB of ram and 128 gigs of internal storage.
The similarities don’t end there, both the devices share the exact same dual camera setup of 16 MP, f/1.7 & a secondary 20 MP f/1.7 sensor, the front camera is also the same clocking in at a 16 MP f/2.0 sensor.
Battery Capacity and Headphone Jack
Another major improvement that the 6T brings in is the larger 3700 mAh battery that is around 12% larger than its predecessor. Pair this with OnePlus’s turbocharging, the device is going to be an absolute champion in terms of battery.
The larger battery and the in screen fingerprint reader, unfortunately, meant sacrificing the headphone jack for such features – this is kind of a big deal for OnePlus. In fact, the CEO of OnePlus Pete Lau stated in an interview with CNET that removing the headphone jack in favour of other features at a higher price tag was the toughest decision they had to make during development.
Luckily, the phone ships with a USB C to 3.5mm dongle.
Availability and Pricing
The OnePlus 6T was announced on the 29th of October, and has already started preorders with an expected shipping date starting next month – the device will arrive with Android Pie 9.0 out of the box.
As far as pricing is concerned, the base model of 6 GB ram and 128 GB internal storage will cost around $549 USD. Compared to the predecessor, one plus offered a 6 GB RAM, 64 GB internal storage OnePlus 6 variant for only $529.
Providing a cost-effective mark up of 20$ with respect to a doubled 128 GB base internal storage.
