Update
According to the latest update on the new tower in Dubai, if sources are to be believed, this tower will be taller than the Burj Khalifa, even if it is slightly. This will effectively give this tower the title of the tallest building in the world: at least until the Kingdom Tower in Saudi Arabia is complete. It is still unclear if the new tower will cross that height as well.
Apart from the height, the tower will also two have swinging platforms that will help the entire floor rotate to provide a panoramic view of the city. Rather than having to step outside, visitors can feel the entire floor rotate and show them around. As far as the height of these platforms is concerned, it has not yet been disclosed.
The tower will have open elevators that will contribute to the beauty of the building.
Architecturally speaking, the building is inspired by the lily flower and it will be held with the help of long cables that are usually used in the construction of bridges. It is possible that this tower will use the longest cables ever made. The tower will have 18 usable floors.
“The Burj Khalifa is an enormous achievement… I think it is not only a very beautiful building, but also makes fantastic addition to the skyline of Dubai. We are not only inspired, but we are also challenged.” – Santiago Calatrava Valls

HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, ruler of Dubai and Vice President of the UAE, has approved a design for a new tower that will give stiff competition to the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa.
This new structure doesn’t have a name yet but is a project of Emaar Properties, the same as the Burj Khalifa. This new building’s design gives a contemporary twist on Islamic architecture and is designed by renowned Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. He has experience in working with other iconic towers like the World Trade Centre Transportation Hub in New York, Chicago Spire Tower, Calgary Peace Bridge and the Olympic Sports Complex in Athens. Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai approved the design. He had options from six other consultancies before deciding on this one.
“It will be architectural wonder that will be as great as Burj Khalifa and Eiffel Tower.” – Sheikh Mohammed
This new building is proposed to be constructed in the middle of Emaar’s Dubai Creek Harbour development. The height of the building is not revealed yet.
“The masterpiece tower will be a cultural and touristic icon. Construction will start in few months and its height will only be announced once the tower is officially open.” – Mohamed Al Abbar, Chairman, Emaar.
This tower will be an observation tower and will have a 4.5 km boardwalk with many options for entertainment and leisure.
