Electric cars have been in the pipeline for quite some time now and after major research and development, Chevrolet has proudly announced Chevy Bolt, the first electric car for the masses.
So what’s so special about the Bolt electric car?
First of all the sleek design takes us by surprise because an electric car that looks stylish was something that we hadn’t dared imagine in the first few models at least but looks like Chevy’s design is here to stay. While design is important, it is the performance that actually makes a car what it is. According to Chevrolet’s website, the Bolt promises a 200 mile (around 320 kms) distance for a full charge, which can be achieved in 9 hours (with their 240-volt charger). As is the norm with cars nowadays, the Bolt comes equipped with a 10.2-inch center display that provides you with complete information about the car, its mileage, and also lets you connect your phone with it and make calls or play music.
Another interesting feature to note about the Bolt is its rear camera mirror. The mirror has two views: one with people’s heads visible in the backseat and one that shows beyond that (no more asking people to bend their heads so you can see clearer). The car also has a rear camera that makes reversing easier than ever. And with 10 air bags, side blind zone alert and a whole bunch of other features, Chevy has taken safety very seriously with the Bolt.
With a price tag of around $30,000 (around AED 110,000) the Bolt is all set to be a winner. The specifications are impressive and the features are a lot when compared to other cars in the same price range. However, the most important factor for success lies in the fact that it is an electric car. Will it deliver what it has promised? Will it be as smooth and comfortable as driving a petrol/diesel vehicle? Well, wait till the end of 2016 to find out!
