While Facebook has introduced many new features to ensure that the social network is fresh and active, one thing has been constant as far as I can remember: the Facebook News Feed.
Sorted using algorithms, Facebook’s news feed offers to show us content according to our likes and interests and based on our interactions. But it looks like all that is about to change pretty soon!
Facebook is recently testing out a new version of the news feed that will categorize news stories according to different topics. As of the latest news, the topics include World & US News, Sports, and Food.
According to screenshots from test users, we can see that the new Facebook news feed has all these categories at the bottom, which makes it easy for us to sort news according to our interests. Of course, rather than dump all the information we don’t need on us, the new Facebook news feed will give us options to select the categories that we want. A fan of food (who isn’t?) but not that much into sports? Turn on the food news feed option and turn off the sports. Yes, it’s that simple.
“People have told us they’d like options to see more stories on Facebook around specific topics they’re interested in, so we have been testing a few feeds for people to view more and different stories from people and Pages based on topic areas.” – A Facebook spokesperson.
This move comes in an aim to make the Facebook news feed a one-stop destination for gaining information about what’s happening around the world. As it is, we open Facebook the second we open our eyes and keep glancing at it throughout the day. With this new feature, we may possibly render all other news sources like newspapers and TV, useless.
